Funny and Educational
To learn whilst having fun has been the idea behind the whole museum. It has been professionally arranged and everything has been done to make sure everyone will enjoy themselves. Besides the collection of old objects and wine tools, the Hameau du Vin proposes you an insight in everything concerning vines, vineyards, wine growers and wines (from the making of barrels to the wine harvest). From one room to another, with over 10.000 m², the Hameau du Vin uses modern techniques to show you the life on the vineyards through a 3D film, a puppet show, interactive games, etc.
For the children, a game is organised at each part of the museum, with questions about what they have seen. At the end of the visit, the children are rewarded with a surprise gift. The parents are rewarded at the end of the visit by a tasting of wines of the Mâconnais and the Beaujolais…
The making of wines
In addition to the museum itself, Georges Duboeuf (creator of the Hameau du Vin and wine producer / merchant at the same time) has opened his winery to the visitors. Here, you will discover the wine store houses, the fermenting rooms and lots of other interesting things to see. Above the winery, a terrace offers an extraordinary view over the surrounding vineyards.
You can also visit the gardens of the Hameau du Vin. Here, the aromas and flavours of the « Crus du Beaujolais » are presented through 6 little theme gardens. A little train takes you along these theme gardens and through vineyards.
Wine and trains…
To remind you of the fact that the museum is housed in a former railroad, but also to show you the importance of the train transports (which ensured a distribution of Beaujolais wines through the whole of France for a very long time), a train museum was installed just opposite the actual Hameau du Vin. Here, a fine collection about the world of trains is presented to you, from the origins of the railroad Paris-Lyon to the more recent TGV. High light of this visit is definitely the Imperial Wagon, offered to the Compagnie du Nord by Napoleon III.
